Interact Club seniors receive $500 personal scholarship from Mr. Chuck Jones at the Rotary Reading Rally. Mr. Matthews presented them with their checks today. Congrats to Alorah Brown, Chandler Turk, Abiela Parker, & Alorah Brown.
Local artist, Win Crannell, visited with LCHS art students today. He shared his artworks, encouraged students to be creative for a long life, and conducted a tree drawing workshop.
Congratulations to seniors Jackson Marling and Jonathan Wright for being named as semi-finalists in the National Merit Scholarship competition. Both students will apply for consideration as finalists to receive a National Merit Scholarship. They were among only 624 students recognized as semi-finalists in the state of Georgia. Congratulations Jackson and Jonathan!

LCXC traveled to Cartersville to race today. Our teams competed with 50 teams in their race. The boys team took 1st place! Wyatt was 1st and Witt Windham came in 2nd. Sam Edwards, Jackson Marling and Solomon Alhadeff were not far behind on the crowded course. The girls team took 12th place. Keli George placed 12th individuallly. Following her was Joanie Phillabaum, Anna Blake Moyer, Sara Meekyl and Violet Greene. Both teams are getting stronger as we get closer to State.
Ms. Westafer’s Environmental class got to "test out" the watermelons that they have been growing in the school garden. They are constantly checking on our compost bins. They have also been working hard to collect data for their semester long experiment on plants.
Ms. Westafer’s Biology students discovered that all of the different types of cells that they are learning about look really interesting under the microscope!

Congratulations to seniors Isabelle Cotterill, Malaysha Hinton, and Mavis Poore for being selected recently to receive a $500 scholarship from the CollegeBoard during CollegeBoard BigFuture's monthly scholarship drawings. Students in 10th-12th grades can earn entries in monthly drawings for $500 and $40,000 scholarships by completing the six qualifying steps on BigFuture.

Ms. Westafer’s Environmental Science class investigated the importance of the water cycle and human impacts on the water cycle. They saw how humans can introduce chemicals and pollutants into the watersheds. They also traveled through the biosphere as a water drop and built a bracelet to document their journey.
Watercolor histology project: In Dr. Alldred’s anatomy class, students learned that cells create tissues in the body. Students chose a particular tissue type and used watercolors to create a piece of artwork!
North Georgia Invitational XC: The boys took 3rd place out of 22 teams. Wyatt Windham, 1st place, ran the fastest 5k in Georgia this weekend, with a 14.54, Witt Windham was 5th, 15:28. Sam Edwards, Solomon Alhadeff, Jackson Marling, Evan Good and Jacob Matthews all ran sub 18 mins in the 5k.
The girls team was led by Keli George who shattered the school record running a 19:35 5k. All of the girls ran a great race in sub par conditions. Most of them ran their PR's. It was a great day for a race!!
