Haley Hayes represented our high school today at the state championship hosted by Georgia Tech. She competed in the 1A -3A classification and finished 7th in the 100 yard freestyle. She finished in 16th in the 100 yard backstroke. A phenomenal job by our star sophomore swimmer!

LCHS will NOT be hosting the ACT on February 10th. PLEASE CHECK YOUR UPDATED TESTING TICKET on www.ACT.org to see where you have been re-routed to. You are still signed up to take it, but not at LCHS.
There were not enough students signed up to take it here, so ACT re-routed to a different testing center.

LC Girls Wrestling takes 1st in the Area 7 Traditional Tournament! 12 of 13 advance to Sectionals! Let's go LC!


Mrs. Swift and Coach Estenson’s biology classes tested the effects of pectinase on apple juice production. Each group measure specific amounts of apple sauces and recorded the amount of juice produced when the enzyme was added. The environmental science class modeled how the greenhouse effect works outside by measuring the temperature inside and outside of a covered beaker containing carbon dioxide over a period of 20 minutes.



Ms. Westafer’s AP bio class discovering why cell size is important and how solute concentration affects osmosis. We put beets in bleach and calculated to rate of diffusion. We potato cores in different solutions of sugar water and calculated the % change in mass.


FCCLA attended the Star Leadership Event in Buford, Georgia on Tuesday, Jan 30th. Next stop is the FCCLA state conference.



Ms. Westafer’s biology class investigating how bear populations affect resource availability. There was a blind bear, mama bear and injured bear to see how other factors can affect survival.


Celebrating All As! Over 200 students enjoyed a Semester 1 academic celebration this week. Students that earned all As made culinary creations on a potato bar with all the toppings. Keep up the hard work!









Honor Unit with Distinction! We are extremely proud of our JROTC Cadets who were inspected by their higher headquarters in our JROTC Program Accreditation (JPA). Each Cadet's hard work and preparation paid off as they earned the top rating possible as an Honor Unit with Distinction.


Parents and families of sophomores- counselors will begin meeting with sophomores for individual academic conferences starting January 25. Conferences have been scheduled during one of your student's non-academic classes. They have received their appointment slip through one of their elective teachers this week. Check with your student for their appointment date and time, parents are welcome to attend the scheduled conference.


Ava Smith, Dr. Gibbs, and Cody Jackson’s plants have a "meet cute" in the LCHS MC!


Mr. Kirk and Coach Horton spent the day at the state capitol advocating for Lumpkin County High School and all member schools of Region 7-AAA. They were invited by the House leadership group to hear our story. We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to share our experiences of not only the great things happening in our community, but some challenges we face as school leaders. Thank you Representative Will Wade for being an ear and advocate for us.


The Lumpkin County SkillsUSA team competed in regional championships at North Georgia Tech. The following students won medals:
Quiz Bowl- Gold Medal (Breana Donahue, Owen Woody, Jack Fox, Sara Hopper, Will Giles)
Cabinet Making- Gold Medal (Hayden McKenzie)
Prepared Speech- Silver Medal (Bricen Popko)
Automotive Service Technology- Silver Medal (Cru Norton)
Extemporaneous Speaking - Bronze Medal (Barrett Wilkinson)
All of these students will compete at the State Competition in February in Atlanta. Good Luck!
