Enjoying the weather!

This week we got to recognize our next set of "Dreamcatchers," students who go above beyond to make our school better. Thank you to Dahlonega Women's Club for sponsoring the breakfast to honor these kids!

Our Very Involved Parents (VIPs) lead by Mrs. Jammie Caine, treated our teachers this week to a popcorn cart and drinks. It was such a nice treat for our hard working teachers!

Seventh grade did some cross curricular work today in ELA and Science classes. In ELA, students argued about whether or not pajamas are appropriate to wear in public. In Science, students took advantage of their comfy pajamas and participated in a “sleep study” where they were diagnosed with a sleep disorder before researching if their disorder was genetic mutation or a disease.

Congrats to 7th grader Clara Smith who placed 3rd in the Horse Project at Northeast District Project Achievement (DPA). We are very proud of her!
For DPA, 4-H’ers pick a project area of interest, do project work in that area throughout the year then research a specific topic, write a presentation, and present it to a judging panel. Beginning in the 7th grade competition process, youth are expected to produce lengthier presentations and submit a portfolio for written work.

8th graders are learning about the Electromagnetic Spectrum by observing different gas discharge tubes.

HAPPY PI DAY! Our 7th grade math teachers and students celebrated with projects and a party! How many digits of pi can you recite?

Save the date! Rising 6th Grade Parent Night!

8th grade students are having fun learning to fly drones in STEM Connections.

Congrats to our 8th grade chorus and Mr. Martin for earning straight superior ratings at LGPE today! They sounded awesome!

Mrs. Gordon's classes compete in the Argument Essay Organization Challenge! Who can reassemble the essay with thesis, counterclaim, evidence, hook, and information all in the right places the quickest? Everyone is a winner because working together is the best.

In seventh grade ELA, students have been reviewing and analyzing the parts of an argument. This week, students participated in class debates over dress codes and cellphone usage at school. Students also acted as jury members, deciding who had the most logical arguments and rebuttals.

Our in-house coffee shop, Javability, has expanded to serve our friends at Lumpkin County Elementary School. We love our Tribe!

Check out Coach Rhodes's 7th grade ELA lesson!
"Today we read an article about how an “awe” walk can make you happier. A study was done and in the article it explains how one group was happier than the other when they went for a walk and took the time to enjoy and appreciate their surrounding environment. We read the article and wrote a claim, reason and counterclaim statement about the article’s findings/research. After the article activity, we went for a 10 minute walk to see if the claim was true for ourselves and then we came back to rewrite a new claim/reason for how we felt after the “awe” walk. The kids were laughing, smiling and enjoying it. I was amazed at how much fun they had today and how engaged they were when we got back to finish the activity."

Mrs. Foley and Mrs. Glacier's class enjoyed this beautiful weather by labeling the parts of waves.

Isabella Ferguson represented LCMS this weekend at the region competition of the Scripps Spelling Bee. She finished 12th out of 28 competitors making it through 5 tough rounds of competition. The event ran with 2 rounds of spelling, followed by a round of vocabulary, and then back to spelling. Congrats, we're proud of you!

It's national random act of kindness day! The kindness club, led by Mrs. Miller allowed students to post nice messages to each other.

7th grade science students extracted DNA from strawberries today!
